Manufacturing Defects
No one would suggest that if a wire rope supplier is carrying out your rope examinations that they are dishonest but, in respect of when or why you need to change-out a wire rope there exists the question of commercial interest.
Sometimes a wire rope has to be changed or has a short life because of a manufacturing defect.
In such cases, it is not uncommon for the rope supplier to try and find some reason, associated with your installation or how you ‘handled’ the wire rope, as to why the rope has had to be changed prematurely.
Except that you have the right level of ‘in-house’ knowledge, it is very difficult to challenge that explanation.
On the other hand, a knowledgeable independent will be able to negotiate on your behalf and if there is evidence of a fault with the rope be able to assist in obtaining a beneficial outcome.
